Bourke & Travers

Bourke & Travers

Bourke & Travers began in 1996 when David Travers purchased 44 hectares of land in the northwestern Clare Valley, between Sevenhill and Armagh, and began planting it to Rhone-style varietals. Their small-batch production includes Shiraz, Grenache and Mourvèdre. The shiraz has been in Penfolds St Henri, Penfolds 389, Leasingham Classic Clare and Kilikanoon Oracle.

B&T vines are grown on some of the oldest vineyard soils in the world, ancient sedimentary geology dating up to 800 million years. This uniqueness is on full display in the vineyards, with terra rossa over limestone, deep sandy loams, red clays, siltstone gravel and quartzite bedrock soils. On this, B&T have a simple philosophy: grow outstanding fruit in the vineyards and don't overcomplicate it in the winery.

This means no herbicides, pesticides, or insecticides in the vineyards. And, at harvest time, hand picking, whole bunch, foot stomping, gentle de-stemming, natural yeast, small open top fermenters, hand plunging and basket pressing.

Bourke & Travers' Terroir in the Vineyard Tour provides guests with an exclusive farm style experience through the vineyards, tasting award winning, low intervention wines and exploring some of the oldest vineyard soils in the world.
