Clare Valley Extravaganza
Experience it all on a Clare Valley Extravaganza
Day 1
Wake up in Clare on the second Saturday of the month and enjoy a swag of regional producers at the Clare Market. Next, it’s off to famous Sevenhill Cellars for a tour of St Aloysius’ Church before a lazy lunch under the olive tree on the veranda at Skillogalee Winery & Restaurant. Spend the afternoon exploring neighbouring cellar doors, including Sussex Squire, Mitchells, Kilikanoon and Penna Lane. End the day by filling a basket with cheese, meats and olives at Shut the Gate Wines, before heading back to your accommodation.
Day 2
Hire bikes at Clare or Auburn and do a few hours’ sightseeing under your own steam on the Riesling Trail. Don’t like to pedal? Try an e-bike! Do the scenic drive from Sevenhill to Mintaro, a stunning village where little has changed since 1849. After lunch at Reilly’s Wines, do a tour of exquisite Martindale Hall and lose yourself in nearby Mintaro Maze, consisting of over 800 conifers. The historic Magpie & Stump Hotel has a terrific menu – a great place to round out the day.
Day 3
Place yourself in the hands of one of the region’s local guides for the day. Let David Cowperthwaite chauffeur you around in his Jaguar Sovereign saloon for a Clare Valley Experience– he’d be delighted to tailor a behind-the-scenes wine tour. Or put yourself in the care of Mr Willson, a dyed-in-the-wool local who serves up plenty of wine, history and food on his Clare Valley Tours. After a full day of exploring, dine at one of the region’s leading restaurants such as Terroir in Auburn, Watervale Hotel in Watervale or Seed Clare Valley, Ragu & Co or Indii, all in Clare.
